Soon after joining Wiley-Blackwell, I experimented with a Crain's like news tabloid (11 x 17) based on Futura, Garamond and a soupcon of Big Caslon. I ran through the usual ''progression'' from a simple, clean, info-packed news page to a one-image news feature to a double-truck feature spread to a full-page image spread and a more fun silo-and-type-contrasts page. Yes, this is what I do in my spare time, when the mood strikes and certain typefaces and design challenges inspire me.
